What is it used for (Indication) ?
Etoricoxib relieves pain and inflammation. It is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic low back pain, acute pain and gout.
How it works (Mechanism)?
Etoricoxib is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). It works by blocking the abnormal prostaglandin level, a type of chemical responsible for pain, stiffness of joints, swelling and inflammation.
What is Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout (disease) ?
Osteoarthritis: A form of arthritis, occurring mainly in older people, that is characterized by chronic degeneration of the cartilage of the joints.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: A chronic disease marked by stiffness and inflammation of the joints, weakness, loss of mobility, and deformity.
Gout: A painful inflammation of the big toe and foot caused by defects in uric acid metabolism resulting in deposits of the acid and its salts in the blood and joints.
How to take this medicine (Administration & Dosage) ?
1. Osteoarthritis: The usual adult dose is 60 mg taken once daily.
2. Rheumatoid arthritis: The usual adult dose is 90 mg taken once daily.
3. Ankylosing spondylitis: The usual adult dose is 90 mg once daily.
4. Acute gout: The usual adult dose is 120 mg for upto max 8 days.
5. Not recommended for children and adolescents under 16 years of age.
6. Monitor blood pressure and renal function.
Etoricoxib Side Effects
Etoricoxib (arcoxia) is generally well tolerated. Common side effects dizziness, headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain or change in taste.

Contraindications (Who should avoid this)
1. If you are hypersensitive to Etoricoxib or any other medications.
2. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
3. If you are breast feeding.
4. If you are a patient with diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, kidney hypertension, heart failure, cardiac failure or its history, renal impairment, hepatic impairment, stomach problems or bowel disease, porphyries, or if undergoing any surgery including dental surgery.
5. Not recommended for children and adolescent under 16 years of age.

1. Keep away from light and moisture.
2. Store at room temperature between 15° - 30° C (59° - 86° F).
