What is it used for (Indication) ?
Dutasteride is used to treat an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH).
How it works (Mechanism)?
Dutasteride is in a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the production of a natural substance that enlarges the prostate. This shrinks the prostate, relieves symptoms of BPH, such as frequent and difficult urination, and decreases the chance that surgery will be needed to treat this condition.

1. The recommended dosage is 0.5 mg once in a day with or without food.
2. The capsules should be swallowed whole without chewing, splitting or crushing.

This medication is generally well tolerated. Common side effects may include decreased libido, decreased amount of semen or, impotence.

Medication that interacts with dutasteride includes HIV or AIDS medicine, antibiotic, antifungal medications, SSRI antidepressant, tricyclic antidepressant, Vaprisol, Nicardipine, Clarithromycin, Quinidine, Cataflam, Imatinib, Propofol, Telithromycin, Diprivan, Nefazodone or Isoniazid.
