What is it used for (Indication) ?
Celecoxib is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
Celecoxib is also used to treat painful menstrual periods and pain from other causes.
It is also used with surgery and other treatments to reduce the number of polyps (abnormal growths) in the colon (large intestine) and rectum in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (a condition in which hundreds or thousands of polyps form in the colon and
cancer may develop).
How it works (Mechanism)?
Celecoxib is in a class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called COX-2 inhibitors. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain and inflammation.

1. Osteoarthritis

3. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in patients 2 years and older
4. Ankylosing Spondylitis
5. Acute Pain
6. Primary Dysmenorrhea

How to take this medicine (Administration & Dosage) ?
1. Osteoarthritis :- 200 mg once daily.
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis 100 to 200 mg twice daily.
3. Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthrit: 50 mg twice daily in patients 10-25 kg. 100 mg twice daily in patients more than 25 kg.
4. Ankylosing Spondylitis: 200 mg once daily single dose or 100 mg twice daily. If no effectis observed after 6 weeks, a trial of 400 mg (single or divided doses)
may be of benefit.
5. Acute Pain and Primary Dysmenorrhea: 400 mg initially, followed by 200 mg dose if needed on first day. On subsequent days, 200 mg twice daily as needed.
6. Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: 400 mg twice daily with food, as an adjunct to usual care
Side effects of medicine
This medication is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence and insomnia.
Interaction with other medicines
1. Consult your doctor before using any other medication while taking this medicine.
2. Talk to your doctor regarding your medical history or if you are apatient with known hypersensitivity to celecoxib, aspirin, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
3. It should not be used right before or after certain heart surgeries.
4. Consult your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems.
Contraindications (Who should avoid this)
1. It is not recommended for use during the last 6 months of pregnancy.
2. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
