What it is used for (Indication) ?
Atorvastatin along with diet plan and exercise is used to decrease the amount of cholesterol (a fat-like substance) and other fatty substances in the blood. It further decreases the risk of stroke, heart attack and other heart diseases. Atorvastatin comes under the medications called HMG-Co A reductase inhibitors (i.e. statins).

How to take this medicine (Administration & Dosage) ?
Recommended dose is 20 mg tablet usually taken once daily with or without food. You should take atorvastatin at around the same time every day.
Side effects of medicine
Atorvastatin is generally well-tolerated, and its side effects are very rare. In some cases minor side effects may include constipation, diarrhoea, fatigue, gas, heartburn, and headache.
Interaction with other medicines
Rare cases of muscle inflammation (myositis) and breakdown have been reported with other drugs. In some cases drugs that decrease the elimination of Atorvastatin include erythromycin, ketocanazole, Clarithromycin, cyclosporin, indinavir, ritonavir, itraconazole and telethromycin.

1. You should talk to your doctor if you have diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, a muscle disorder, or a history of liver disease.
2. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or going to be pregnant.
